What makes us different?

We have put together the list below in easy bullet points to help answer this question; the short answer of course is that we genuinely believe in sustainability, it not just about selling product, our focus is - what goes into them, how they are made and what happens to them afterwards.

We chose this range of paints due to their very strong ecological benefits, low CO2 impact, transparency in listing ingredients, ease of use and quality. We feel it is best to offer our customers paints and wood finishes that not only have a quality and ‘lifestyle’ feel to them but also come with the assurance that they are not harmful to you or the planet, Auro is the natural choice for this. Please see some of the benefits in using these paints listed below.

·       Auro use natural raw ingredients in their products – no toxic petrochemicals, acrylics or alkyd resins.

·       Organically grown boiled linseed oil is used as the main binding resin in the paint, growing this actively takes up CO2 instead of producing it. Auro’s factory uses both solar energy and wind power to further reduce these emissions. In fact Auro are the only Paint Manufacturer to be accredited as CO2 neutral offsetting the balance through the Climate Neutral Group who promote Rain Forest and Fresh Water initiatives.

·       All of Auro’s water and oil based and products meet the 2010 E.U paint directives and have done for many years. This means that they are not scrambling to meet the directive and their finishes have already been tried, tested and certified for a number of years.

·       The matt emulsions cover and last as long as conventional DIY paints and now come in over 100 colours. Prices are very competitive and are generally cheaper next to other ‘lifestyle paints’ such as Farrow & Ball and Fired Earth, so why not have the perfect colour together with the proper ecology in your choice of paint.

·       Auro Products are all breathable and micro-porous, this creates a healthier living environment and allows potential damp problems to evaporate out through the surface.

·       Auro water based products contain no biocides, so have become the standard for hypoallergenic and child friendly environments, they are perfect for cots and toys and carry EU certification for this.

·       The wood stains come in 32 different colours and came top in Test Magazine (equivalent to Which! Report in Germany) compared to 21 other eco and conventional woodstains for external use. These have also been approved for use around Koi Fish ponds and are perfect for use in schools.

·       There is a product for every desired finish, be it matt emulsions for walls, special lime paints for internal lime renders, gloss and silk paints for woodwork, wall paper adhesives, glues and fillers, plus a host of both oil based and water based wood floor finishes. All developed with quality and ecology in mind, a pure orange oil solvent is used in some of Auro’s oil based wood finishes.

·       Auro’s new flagship product – 328 Airfresh paint actively neutralises smells and pollutants in a room and has been certified as degrading Formaldehyde by 95% after just 2 hours of application.

·      Two Houses, Haddon Lake on the Isle of Wight and Will Anderson’s (author of Diary of an Eco Builder) Tree House, were both shortlisted as best Ecobuild 2007 by Grand Designs, both used Auro decorating products.

·      Smartplanet.com and the Proof report on allergies voted Auro as best in test against other eco paints, we are ‘best buy’ in Ethical Consumer Magazine and carry their logo on our emulsion paints and achieved their highest ethi-score for paints.
