| AURO certified as a carbon neutral company |
|
March 2007 Natural raw materials and responsibility for the world climate - a perfect combination.
The action of growing plants, in a perfectly closed cycle, which are subsequently used as the major ingredient in our products help neutralise CO2 that would otherwise damage the climate. The consistent use of renewable raw materials has made AURO a pioneer of active climate protection for decades. Vegetable raw materials are per se carbon neutral because, over their complete life cycle, they take in exactly the same amount of CO2 that is set free during their biological degradation. Now AURO AG have rounded off their company concept that has been distinguished many times before: As the first paint producer worldwide, AURO was certified as a "carbon neutral company" by the prestigious Climate Neutral Group (CNG). Unlike similar certificates the CNG method registers all CO2 relevant activities of a company.
Read the full news release: Our stance here at Auro UK is quite simple, we don't believe carbon offsetting is the be all and end all of how companies should operate. This can be over simplistic and a way for huge multinational companies to take the focus off what ecological damage they are really doing to our planet - some heavy PR on a small amount of offsetting can quickly do this. We do believe that it is a first step in getting companies to accept and look at what carbon footprint they have and can act as a great mechanism for ecological change within the business. Ultimately we would like to see companies reduce the overall carbon emissions they produce by adopting more sustainable practices. Businesses do have to change and develop more sustainable means of production across the board, of course Auro AG already adopt a very strong stance on this in their day to day operations and still need to offset 27 tons of CO2 emissions a year. What this would be for the likes of standard paint companies and other multinationals would be quite phenomenal. It is worth noting too, that the carbon offestting that we do is via the Climate Neutral Group, who invest in tropical rainforest renewing, not monoculture plantations which are disastrous to the local ecology, they also contribute to clean water schemes, wind farms, biomass, and other sustainable energy schemes.
